So What's New?

It has been a while since my last entry, so I will try to do a quick re-cap of what is going on in my life to catch up...

September- My Finace and I deceided to rent out our Condo down town and move to Markham with my parents to save money for a house. During this time I also decided to Look for a job out side of the Family business. Had a great month playing Poker making $1550 / 83 Hours

October- Setteled in to house in Markham, had an interview or two and earned $600 / 66 Hours playing poker. Season #6 Finished with a wimper as I was knocked out early in the Finale.

November- Went to Buffalo and Niagrafalls for my Stag, had a great night with all of the boys. Poker time was reduced significantly as wedding approached and job interviews increased. Near the end of the month, I had an interview with IBM Procurement, and it went real well. By the end of the month they sent me a job offer and I accepted. + $248 / 15 Hours

December- Amy and I were Married on December 1st
in a beatiful Ceremony in the Mayanne Riviera with 30 of our close friends and family. The trip was loads of fun, and the honeymoon was relaxing and romantic. I started my job on December 18th. During this time my father had successful double by-pass surgery. He is recovering well! Poker: +$1154 in 37 Hours

2006 Year end: I cashed out $7500 and left my self with a bankroll of $2300

January- Basically spent the month training and getting comforatble with new job. Amy and I also put down a deposit on a End-Town home in Markham. We are very happy with our choice and are looking forward to moving in December of 2007! As for Poker, could not get anything going, I lost $500 playing $1-2 NL @ Dream Poker and have not been able to recover since... -$383 in 30 Hours.

So here we are Superbowl Sunday in February, with a new job, new house being built, new marriage and not a tonne of time to play poker. It is also worth noting that I have trimmed down from 238 in April of 2006 to a leaner 205 lbs as of today. So really.... What isnt new? Happy New Year all! Hopefully 2007 bring another great year to every one and I will try to update my blog more consistently, although with the way i am playing poker currently, that will mrean a lot of write ups on losing sessions.

Quick Update

Its been a long time since my last post and quite a bit has happened in during that span, so I'll try to catch up as briefly as possible.

On a personal note, My fiance and I decided to move out of Down Town Toronto, so we rented our Condo out on September 15th. Due to the fact we dont know excatly where we'd like to move to, we have set up shop at my parents place in Markham for the time being to save money and look around different area's like Stouville, Brooklin and Markham as well for a new place that we can afford and enjoy living in.

Pokerwise, I ran up and down fore the rest of the summer, but in starting September things started to click and I have increased my bankroll over $2000 up to $8900 since September 1st. I am now regulary playing $1-$2 NL holdem.

Right now, I am clearing a PSO promotion on Dream Poker, I deposited $800 there a few days ago, and currently have my roll there at $1425, so its been a nice ride on that site.

I finished Reading Sklansky and Miller's new book on NL holdem theory and it helped remind me that NL is a game of implied odds and how important it is to try to get in situatiosn to win players entire stacks. There is some other good information of calling All ins and moving All in at profitable times. Other then that it was just a solid refresher and got me thinking about the game again. I am now reading The Psychology of Poker.

The only real bad news I have to write about is that that season 6 of the Poker Leagues that I run has been a total disaster for me personally. I am currently in 9th place of 11 w/ just two tournaments left, and have cashed on just one measly occasion. Tournamenst just arent my thing right now, but Im not going to give up, just have to work harder.

That's all for now.

Monster Run on FCP

It has been an extremely hectic week, but it has all been worth it. I have totally upgraded my computing by purchasing a new desktop and a new Dell Inspiron 9400 Lap top. Both machines are insane compared to my old computer, but I am really loving have a lap top. The reason I chose the 9400 was so that I could 4 table with the 17" screen and I am glad I did. Despite nothaving my wireless rauter hooked up yet, I have been playing poker on my balcony an hour or two an evening and I absolutely love being able to do that.

Poker has been going incredibly well since I made the upgrades, I deposited $500 on FCP to clear $50 in bonus money and I went on a tear playing 4 $50 NL tables that saw me increase by FCP bank roll to $1132. I was hitting huge hands and getting paid off. I also played more aggressively yet patient and it seem sto have worked. I cashed that out and am now trying to figure out where to go. I have bonuses pending at Inter Poker, Paradise Poker and Ultimate Bet, plus there PSO promo's that I can do. For now I am going to continue organizing my laptop, then maybe read a chapter of Antonio Esfariardi's Book. Its actually not a bad read, and I think it has helped my No Limit game quite a bit.

Lat night I purchased my suit that I will be wearing for my wedding, I got it from Harry Rosen at the Eaton Centre. I went with a Linen Suit very light in color, so it is the perfect look and feel for a wedding on the beach in mexico.

Money easy come and easy go right now as I have made a lot of major purchases of late including Computers, Furniture, TV and now a suit. I still have to buy my wedding rings and then I am hoping to be able to relax and enjoy all of the nice changes that Amy and I have made to the condo. We are still waiting for the furniture I will let you know how it lookd once it has been delivered.

Tonight we are going to clear some more stuff out, play a game of squash and hopefully watch a movie.

New Computer Arrives

I picked up my new Desktop computer today at lunch. I am now waiting anxiously for the work day to end so I can get home and hook it up. I had been having a tonne of trouble 4 tabling at most of the poker sites, My computer was constantly freezing and causing me to restart and get back to all of my tables. I lost out on a few nice pots and it really hampered with my playing time as I was spending more time getting set up then actually playing. Hopefully this new machine thta is equipped with a Pentium 4 processer and 1 GB of RAM will elimnate a lot of those troubles.

As for the weekend, I played a little poker on Party, working my way through a $75 Re-Load bonus. I played .25/.50 PL Omaha/8 on 4 tables and did well earning $88. I only played for a couple of hours, so its not enough hands to get excited about but it was nice to book a win over a couple of sessions. I still have 450 Raked hands to go before the bonus releases, which I am hoping to get done by Wednesday.

On Saturday, Amy and I went to our Friend Matt Seon's place in brooklin to have dinner and drinks for his Wife Terra's 30th b-day. After dinner and cake we hit Eldorado Golf course for a little night Golf. I am not a golfer and play terribly, so I was a little nervous about playing in the dark, but it turned out to be lots of fun, and I managed to make some good shots and was making better contact then usual.

Sunday, Amy and I went for a huge walk and ended up at the Roger's Centre to go into their Roger's Cable/TV Store, we needed to pick up our High Definition digital cable box to go with our new TV. After a little hassle we were able to get the box home and hook up to the TV..... and ofcourse that day Roger's happens to be having difficulties with thier network, so we are missing quite a few chanels. We were able to get the DVD player to work, so we watched a movie called GIA, this was a pretty depressing movie about a super model who makes it big, but falls into the life of a drug user and acquires AIDS. It was very disturbing to watch her fall from the top, but worth the watch.

Canada Day Weekend

I decided to hang around for the long weekend instead of going to any cottages. Friday night we went to dinner and then came home to start working on organizing our condo. We had an engagement party on June 25th and were lucky enough to receive quite a few gifts. Being in a condo we dont have much excess space so we have to sort out what we have to get rid of for the new items. Saturday, we woke up early and went for breakfast at Over Easy. Its a great spot to hit for breakfast, with delicious food and friendly service. After that, we went for a walk over to the Eaton Centre, I looked at suits to wear for my Wedding in Mexico, we saw a very nice linen suit at Harry Rosen which is the front runner as of now. I think i'll go back this weekend and look into making the purchase.

We then took a walk around the streets of Toronto and ended up at the Jazz Festival and then took a look around city hall. One of the major pluses about living down town is that when you take walks there is always something to see and this weekend was no exception. From there we headed home and got back to work on the condo, removing a table, 5 chairs, and a bunch of other stuff that we never used down to the moving room. We did all kinds of work but still lots more to do. I am planning on calling a furniture store this weekend and having some come take a look and make suggestions on how to optimally make use of our space.

On Sunday evening we went to Amy's brother Rick's house for dinner, He and Dana cooked us some tastay steaks along with Salad and Mushrooms. It was an awesome meal, we then sat outside and talked wedding plans and other details while having a few drinks. It was lots of fun.

Monday, we hit the bay to purchase a new TV, we got a 42" LCD Read projection made by Sony, I also ended up splurging on an out door set that we have been looking to get for quite some time. We both extremely happy with the new additions and are anxiously awaiting thier arrival set for this saturday.

Poker wise, I got destroyed on Tuesday night losing $215 playing both .25/.50 NL and .50/$1 NL Holdem on Inter Poker, the big loss occured when I had 97s and flopped an OE Straight Draw to go with a flush draw, I check raised all in and got called by a set of 8's, I hit my flush on the turn, but the board paired on the River to lose me the pot. I was extremely frustrated and lost another pot w/ QQ shortly after where I laid down the best hand instead of calling an all in bet on the turn. In my head I wasnt ready to lose $200 in 5mins which i why I laid teh hand down rather then calling the $75 bet. In the future I will not be looking to make big lay downs with over pairs in these games, there are just too many donks that are willing to make large bets with marginal hands.

For the time being I am awaiting teh arrival of my new computer's so I have not been playing very much, My desktop is suppoed to be ready today so hopefully I will have it all set up for the weekend.

Thats it for now.

End Of June and a load of Computer Trouble

June has come and gone, and I never really got anything going Poker wise, I played less then 7 hours a week which is way down for me and never got on a roll. My bank roll increase a measly $18 so we'll just say I broke even which include's Bonuses. In terms of record keeping I was able to transfer my book keeping over to a site called www.pokerdominator.com, this site is perfect for my needs as it not only keeps your results, but it also has a good section on tournament play and an even better segment dedicated to Bankroll management. This has allowed me to seperate my bonuses earned from actual results for the year. So far in 2006, I am - $480 in actual poker results, but I have increased my bankroll by almost $3000. I am not all that surprised by the fact that I am down, I have been playing 4 tables almost exclusively from when 2006 began and my tournament results have been quite poor. The multitabling allows me to clear bonuses at a faster pace and I am happy to be earning around $100 an hour at this point. My goal is to turn around the losses and start winning while multitabling and this will improve my hourly rate in a huge way.

On Thursday I turned my Computer off after is had a normal spat and froze, the problem was that when I flicked it back on, there was no power. Ive brought it into the Computer Guy here at work (Gary) and he thinks the power source is blown and that it is probley time for a new machine. I will most likely call dell this weekend and am planning on buying a new desk top and a new lap top.

As for non poker related issues, I worked my last shift at the Hockey Hall of Fame on Thursday, they were very nice about it and left the door open to me returning later in the year if I decide I'd like to. But, for now I have decided to become a full time employee at a my father's company Cardinal Containers. The commute is a bit long (40 mins or so) but the flexabilty is great and I feel I am ready to make a stronger contribution.

Amy and I also had our engagement party/Local reception on Sunday June 25th at Wooden Stick's Golf Course in Uxbridge. They set up a great tent for us with lots of food and a great mingling area. We had a great turn out and the afternoon was a tonne of fun. The Jack and Jill and Stag are coming up next and then we head to Mexico on November 29th...

Not much doing Poker-Wise

My poker playing time has been way down lately, Im down to less then an hour a day, which is unheard of for me since I started playing On-line in the summer of 2004.

Instead I am taking on more responsibility at my Job and trying to learn as much as I can from my Dad. I am also considering taking some more classes to enhance my education. I have looked into some options and feel that I would like to pursue some Accounting and Management courses as that is what I am interested in on the business end of things.

I did have a good weekend, Friday Amy made us a delicious Spicy Shrimp dinner and I did play some poker later that night. Saturday we went to the Eaton Centre and Amy did some shopping, we then played some squash and then hit a movie. We decided on the Davinci Code and although the reviews weren't great, I thought it was entertaining and definitely worth seeing. Sunday, I met my soon to be brother in law Rick, Sister in Law Liz her son Liam and a couple of Rick's friends and their kids at the Rogers Center and we took in a Jays-Tigers game. I got lots of sun, and had a few beers and watched the Jays get pounded, but over all it was a good time.

When I have been playing poker it has been on Party Poker playing 1-2 Limit Omaha8 or $50 PL Omaha8, as I staed earlier nothing much to report, I've been up and down and am mostly breaking even for the month over a very limited playing schedule. I can see this semi break lasting through out the summer and then increasing my seriousness and playing time in September.

I should take the time to update my fantasy baseball situation. I am currently 8th out of 10 team's, I actually have been on the rise as I was 10th not too long ago. Lots of work to do to get my team in gear, but Im having a great time following it as always.
